We’re making changes to our meal distribution service and sites beginning Monday, April 13.
First, please note that meal service will not be available on Friday, April 10, since schools will be closed and staff will not be working.
Beginning Monday, April 13, we will only distribute meals three days per week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Extra food will be provided each day to make sure children’s needs are met.
Distributing meals three days per week will help safeguard our families and employees by requiring fewer trips to pick up food.
Starting Monday, April 13, we also will be making changes to the number and list of sites serving as meal distribution locations.
For a complete list of food locations and other details, please visit polkschoolsfl.com/lunchlocations.
Please note that PCPS no longer requires that children be present to receive meals. Although we prefer that children are present (to help ensure the meals are going to the right place), it is not required.
If children are not present, please bring their school ID, or be ready to provide their names/schools to PCPS staff. This is necessary for record-keeping purposes.
Families are still welcome to visit any meal distribution site to receive food. This service is available to all Polk County children, including students of public, private and charter schools, and homeschool students.
Week of 3.29.2020 Update
We miss you all so much, and we hope you are staying healthy and well during this time. Please find the below information that will assist you and your families this next week.
Computer distribution will begin on Wednesday, April 1st. This will be a drive through service in the car line from 11:00 to 1:00. The student you are getting a device for must be enrolled at Horizons Elementary. Students with a completed survey will receive priority on Wednesday. If you have not completed the district provided survey, please come on Thursday, April 2nd between 11:00 and 1:00.
On Monday, March 30th and Tuesday, March 31st, our instructors will reach out to families to introduce their distant learning format to you. Please understand that different instructors may choose to use different formats. We understand that this way of learning is new for many of our students and families, and our staff will operate with a high level of flexibility as we adjust to this new learning platform.
We will utilize our school’s Facebook page and website to communicate the most up-to-date information beginning on Monday, March 30th. The website is http://horizonshawks.polk-fl.net/. Please follow our Facebook page and check the website for updates.
Your child’s instructors are your first point of contact for instructional-related matters as each instructor has the autonomy to use the platforms they choose and differentiate to meet the diverse needs of our students. Please make sure you have their information and keep in touch.
We will be offering lunch services from 11:00 to 1:00 each day. Please ensure your children are present when you come for lunch.
Our office is available by phone from 8:30 to 11:00 Monday through Friday, but our lobby will remain closed at this time.
